Down to the wire...

By Matthew Thomas
With the last race scheduled to start at 11:30 am today, two teams are still fighting for the Lipton Cup.  As with all events like this, it’s always a matter of consistency and it’s no surprise that the most consistent boats are going to have to fight it out today, Both teams, Andrea Giovannini & Markus Progli, sailing False Bay Yacht Club’s Team Intasure Marine Insurance and Greg Davis, sailing Knysna Yacht Club’s Colorpress, have a single win in the regatta and are now separated by a mere 3 points. It will be up to Andrea & Markus to ensure that they stay well ahead of Greg and finish at least 3 boats ahead.

A little further back, there are 5 teams vying for the final podium position. These teams are Guido Verhovert, sailing Royal Cape Yacht Club’s Ells Teeth; Gerry Hegie & James Largier, sailing Theewater Sports Club’s Protea Hotel Mossel Bay; Rob Archibald & Andrew Ward, sailing Redhouse Yacht Club’s RYC Challenge – Orion; Ewald Sternagel, sailing Transvaal Yacht Club’s TYC Lipton Cup Challenge and Ricky Robinson, sailing Royal Natal Yacht Club’s Orion B2G2.

This has been a fantastic event and the most interesting Lipton Cup that anyone can remember and today looks like the wind will be around 10 knots, which should make for a great day of racing.
