Extraordinary sailing and unique results

By Mathew Thomas
For the first time in Lipton Cup history, we are going into day 5 with the top three boats separated by only one point in the race for the win and the race for 4th place has the next four boats neck and neck with three boats tied on 23 points and the next boat with 25 points. Asking around, no one can remember there being three boats in the running for 1st place, let alone an epic battle for 4th!

Wind forecast today is not looking good, with very light and variable winds till quite late, so with that in mind, crews have been advised that they will be able to stay onshore and will have an hour’s warning before the start to put to sea and arrive on the start line.
Current standings are:

  1. Knysna Yacht Club – Colorpress – Greg Davis – 11 points
  2. Royal Natal Yacht Club – Orion B2G2 – Ricky Robinson – 12 points
  3. False Bay Yacht Club – Team Intasure Marine Insurance – Andrea Giovannini & Markus Progli – 13 points
  4. Redhouse Yacht Club – RYC Challenger Orion – Rob Archibald & Andrew Ward- 23 points
  5. Theewater  Sports Club – Protea Hotels Mossel Bay – Gerry Hegie & James Largier – 23 points
  6. Royal Cape Yacht Club – Ells Teeth – Guido Verhovert – 23 points
  7. Point Yacht Club – PYC Element – Luke Wagner – 25 points
